Tom Hatch- A Poem

Off Season

Trying to paint the fence
in November
On weekends
Doesn't help that Friday night
Turns into Saturday morning fighting
Friday nights appointment with the drink
Starting at halfway to noon
10% chance of rain on The
Weather Channel app...by 2:00 pm
it rains the sky
I placed Scotty at end of the unpainted fence
As in incentive
I dance
In the grey cold rain
Cleaning the brush and roller
In the copper thankful words
Adding ice from the wind driven
Sleet the garage door
Closes into darkness opening
Again in spring with the incentive
At the unpainted end of the fence
Hoping for a thunderstorm
